Lawrence Crutcher specializes in direct marketing-related businesses and the consumer magazine and book industries, both in the U.S. and abroad. He completed the joint venture agreement between American Express Publishing Co. and Time Inc., wherein Time manages the American Express properties.
Mr. Crutcher has long-term relationships in the catalog, list management and juvenile publishing industries, as well as in the magazine and trade publishing categories. His work now encompasses the role of the Internet as it impacts these industries. Mr. Crutcher joined VSS after a 22-year career at Time Inc., where he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Book-of-the-Month Club. He holds a BA from Yale College and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Martin Maleska's activities range across all aspects of Veronis Suhler Stevenson's investment banking and private investment activities. He rejoined VSS in February 1999 from Simon & Schuster's International and Business and Professional Group, where he was President from 1995 to 1998. In this capacity, he doubled international revenues and quadrupled his group's domestic profits. A Managing Director at Veronis Suhler Stevenson from 1991 to 1995, Mr. Maleska concentrated on magazine, newspaper and book publishing transactions. Prior to his tenure at VSS, Mr. Maleska spent 11 years at Macmillan Inc., where, in three years as Senior Vice President of Mergers and Acquisitions, he managed a department that completed more than 100 separate transactions. Prior to that he was Group Executive for Business Publishing. Mr. Maleska earned a BS in Chemistry from Fordham University and an MBA in Finance from New York University.
