Robert J. Broadwater leads VSS's activities in newspapers, books and educational publishing. Among his notable transactions are the sale of seven regional newspapers owned by The New York Times Company, the sale of Fox Valley Press, a group of daily and weekly newspapers owned by The Copley Press, Inc., the sale of Running Press Book Publishers, the sale of Stern Publishing, Inc. (publisher of The Village Voice), the acquisition of The Thomson Corporation's Arizona newspaper group by Freedom Communications, Inc., the acquisition by Community Newspaper Holdings of 45 newspapers from Hollinger Inc. and the sale of The Orion Publishing Group, a leading British consumer book publisher, to Hachette Livre. Mr. Broadwater joined VSS in 1988 after a ten-year career on Wall Street. He previously served in the corporate finance department of EF Hutton and as an equity options trader at First Boston.
He holds a BA from Yale University and an MBA from Columbia University.
